Extract from Greg Potter’s (President) speech at the 2016 SSL end of year dinner:
The 2016 SSL flying season has come to an end with a sweet victory in the Midway Cup – an Open Thermal competition between SA and Victoria. After being beaten twice we finally triumphed at Horsham a few weeks ago in a very closely fought event.
SSL members placed 1st, 3rd and 5th to gain 100+ points more (out of 36,000) than the 3 Victorians who placed 2nd, 4th and 6th. We also outnumbered them 2 to 1 with 14 flyers from SA to 7 from Victoria. The cup will spend 8 months at the Modelflight warehouse (Jamie was 1st and Mike 5th) and 4 months with Andrew Meyer (3rd place).
Some events such as F5J and 2M RES suffered from bad weather in 2016. Hopefully this is not repeated in 2017. Others were lucky to have good weather and good attendances.
We have a calendar of events through to the FXJ International in March. The first event being the Tappa 2017 Slope Fest around Australia Day.
Again I make the offer that if you have issues or ideas for SSL please present them to anyone on the Executive committee. We will take them on board and discuss them at a future meeting.
In terms of the club’s general meetings we have a few things booked already. There is demand to repeat the talks given by Marta and Andrew and I have booked us into Balsa Central for a warehouse tour in March. If there is anyone you would like hear from or you have a topic you can present or you know someone else who does please pass on your ideas.
I wish you all a pleasant and safe festive season and I hope to see you out flying often in 2017.
